What is a Child-Friendly Space?

UNICEF establishes Child-Friendly Spaces in emergencies around the world — safe havens where children can recover and rebuild.

In these spaces, children can:

Play, draw, sing, and express themselves
Receive psychosocial support
Reclaim a sense of safety and routine

These are more than play areas. They’re places of hope, healing, and rebuilding childhood.

According to UNICEF data,

1 in 7 children under age 5 do not have toys or playthings at home
1 in 5 children aged 2-4 years do not play with their caregivers at home
