Since late February 2026, a devastating escalation of missile strikes and violence has forced families to flee their homes in sheer panic, leaving behind absolutely everything they know just to survive.

The Crisis at a Glance
- 314+: The number of children who have tragically been killed.
- 1,500+: The number of children who have been injured.
- 44.8 million: The staggering number of children currently living in conflict-affected countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
- Up to 3.2 million: The estimated number of people displaced in Iran, which includes up to 864,000 children.
UNICEF is on the ground
Despite volatility and operational challenges, UNICEF teams are actively responding to scale up life-saving services:
- Delivering Emergency Supplies: In Lebanon, UNICEF has deployed Rapid Response Teams to collective shelters to provide safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. We have also successfully brought in a 45-ton shipment of essential supplies to support up to 400,000 people.
- Protecting Education: To ensure continuity of learning, UNICEF is supporting online platforms, distributing educational materials to shelters, and establishing temporary learning spaces in safe locations.
- Cross-Border Assistance: In Syria, UNICEF is closely monitoring population movements and preparing to scale up health, water, and protection services for newly displaced families arriving from Lebanon who urgently need food, winter clothing, and transport.
- Regional Preparedness: Across the region, including in Iraq, Yemen, and the State of Palestine, UNICEF is pre-positioning supplies and reinforcing national systems to ensure the continuity of critical services should the situation deteriorate further.
